L.L. Bean Flagship Store

Things to do / Travel Guide

Address:Freeport, Maine

Our Tourist Attractions Expert Says:

Leon Leonwood Bean started selling boots to hunters in 1912. The modest shoe he invented, a boot with rubber bottoms and leather uppers, helped him create a company that now does over a billion dollars a year in sales. The flagship store now covers five floors and roughly 120,000 square feet. Hikers, rafters, campers, skiers, snowshoers, and kayakers can all get outfitted here. There's also a cafe, hiking ramps and even a trout pond. The flagship L.L. Bean store is still open 24 hours a day, as it has been for the past 50 years. It's almost an obligatory stop for travellers heading through Freeport, Maine on their way up the Maine Coast and into the North Woods.
