Big Rock Ski Area is a family oriented ski resort. They place a heavy emphasis on teaching people the ropes, and their ski school is based on the ideal of providing both beginning and experienced skiers with the individual instruction that can improve their skiing techniques. Big Rock also is a scenic place to do one's skiing, with great views of nearby Canada.

The site has recently been revamped, with its 28 trails having gone through brush clearing and trail reconditioning. They've also reconditioned their five existing lifts and improved their snowmaking capabilities, to ensure a better skiing experience for their visitors.

Snowboarders are allowed on all the mountain's trails, and instruction is available for skiers looking to try out another alpine sport. Big Rock is open Wednesdays to Fridays from 12:00pm to 9:00pm, and is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Make sure to check out discounted days and events, such as "Ladies Night Out" on Wednesday nights.

Adding variety to this winter paradise, there are now cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, and a wide variety of winter sport events to check out such as: the Snowmobile Hill Climb, Martin Luther King Day Giant Slalom and Slalom Race, and the Mars Hill Winterfest.

The lodge serves up a variety of meals including hot soup and sandwiches, but for more substantial meals you'll have to go elsewhere. The nearby towns of Mars Hill, Blaine, and Easton offer a few additional dining choices as well as a supermarket should you choose to self-cater. Lodging is also available in these towns, with the options including well known hotel chains, cabins for rent and B&Bs.

Big Rock shares the goal with Maine Winter Sports Center (MWSC) of re-establishing skiing as a way of life in Aroostook County. Big Rock is achieving these goals by introducing school and community based programs designed to include any person seeking to be involved in outdoor, winter time recreation.
