Roosevelt Campobello International Park sits on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, just off the coast of Lubec, Maine. The magnificent Roosevelt Cottage, a 34-room home of the former president, serves today as the centerpiece of this unique initiative between Canada and the United States. In addition to the home itself, the park features the natural surroundings of the cottage, including an exquisite garden, crisp ocean air, and the vastness of the sea to tell the story of FDR's life, presidency, and battle with polio.
Roosevelt's "beloved" home, as he once referred to it, is filled with the typical summer home trinkets and photographs of FDR's family and private life. In addition to the Roosevelt Cottage, four other cottages from the same period have been restored, one of which is open to the public. There are also trails, forests, bogs, beautiful gardens, and of course, the ocean to enjoy at this vacation getaway. Whales, porpoises, and seals are commonly spotted nearby.

The Roosevelt Campobello International Park is a unique example of international cooperation. This 2,800-acre park is a joint memorial by Canada and the United States and a symbol of the close relationship between the two countries. Here are the cottage and the grounds where President Roosevelt vacationed, the waters where he sailed, and the woods, bogs, and beaches where he tramped and relaxed. The Roosevelt Campobello International Park was established under an agreement signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson on January 22, 1964. The Roosevelt Campobello International Park was officially opened on August 20, 1964.
