The Maine Maritime Museum, situated on the banks of the Kennebec River, takes visitors on a rich, exciting journey through Maine's seafaring history. Learn about dangerous voyages to distant lands, celebrate Maine's maritime heritage and culture and find out how a shipbuilder's family might have lived in the 1890s.
The Maine maritime Museum encompasses ten acres of galleries and fascinating exhibits on 25 acres of scenic waterfront. The exhibits are filled with art and artifacts, paintings, photographs, ship models and dioramas. Visitors to the museum can also visit an impressive historic shipyard containing five of the original 19th century shipyard buildings, as well as a Victorian-era shipyard owner's home and a life-size sculptural representation of the Wyoming, the largest wooden sailing vessel ever built. The museum also houses contemporary, interactive areas for children and adults.
Special exhibits on display include Legacy of Ships: 400 Years of Shipbuilding in Maine. This exhibit starts with the 1607 Virginia and explores the history of ship and boat building in Maine.
The Maine Maritime Museum book store & gift shop contains a fantastic selection of maritime books and prints, as well as clothing, jewelry, clocks, decorative items, toys, games and quality instruments.
Take the I-295 to exit 28 and follow Route 1 North through Brunswick to Bath. Take the Historic Bath Rd. downhill to the traffic light and make a right onto Washington St. Go south past the Bath Iron Works Complex and lookout for the museum on your left.
