Hills Beach is a beach town on Maine's Saco Bay and is conveniently located only 90 miles north of Boston and 16 miles south of Portland, making Hills Beach a perfect summertime getaway.
On the lovely shores of the Maine coast, you'll see locals and vacationers alike swimming, playing in the clean sand, walking, jogging, birdwatching, and all in all having a relaxing and fun time.
Hills Beach is the site of an early American settlement and is rich with history. The Saco River area was founded in 1616 by the English Caption Vines. History buffs will enjoy learning about the many early skirmishes the settlers had with the Native Americans and how the Maine coast grew and flourished during the first century after being discovered by the early settlers. There are many historic sites in the area in walking distance from the beach – a great walking option for when the water is too cold or when you just need a break from the sand and surf!
Note to the well planned beach-goer: There are no facilities at Hills Beach so bring your own food and drink and make sure you "go" before you get to the beach. Also, while waves are generally small and calm, there is no lifeguard, so swimming is at your own risk.
Have fun vacationing at this quaint New England beach filled with beauty, fun, and history!
