Our Beach Bum Says:

Welcome to Kennebunkport, home to Maine's beautiful Goose Rocks Beach! Here you'll enjoy long walks along the three mile stretch of sandy white coastline, calm clear waters, and an overall environment of peace and quiet. This beach is a runner or walkers paradise – early mornings and evenings are not too crowded, dogs are allowed during those times, and the scenery is gorgeous. A long walk will take you to trails that overlook rocky islands and Batson's River which hosts an estuary filled with birds, lakes, streams, swamps, and marshes.

Families will love the wide stretches of superfine sand (great from building sandcastles and beachcombing for shells!) and the fact that there aren't too many rocks, unlike most other parts of the Maine coast. They'll also love that the water has very few waves and is generally very safe for swimming and wading.

There aren't too many annoying rocks, but there are some large and interesting rock formations (after which the beach is named) – lucky lookers may find sand dollars in the wet sand beneath them as the tide goes out in the early morning!

Art historians will be interested to know that Goose Rocks Beach was home of the O'Hara Watercolor School founding in 1930. Unfortunately it burned down in the great Maine fire of 1947 and was never rebuilt.

Sunrise at Goose Rocks Beach is gorgeous and a wonderful way to start your day. After the sun goes down, night permits are available and guests are welcome to build bonfires and cook out – a not-to-be-missed experience when the weather is nice! So wake up bright and early and stay up late and have a wonderful time vacationing on the stunning Maine coast!
