Maine Coast Wineries

There are about a dozen wineries concentrated around the mid-coast region of Maine, most a short detour from the roads to Acadia and Downeast. Most are quite small and hope that after a tasting, you will buy a bottle or a case. State law prohibits shipping wine out of Maine, so if you try it and you like it – you had better buy it here.

The area is known for fruity and unique wines, made from locally grown apples, pears and just about every berry you can name. Heading up the coast, popular wineries to visit include:
  • Cellardoor Vineyard is a working farm, going back to the late 1700's. Only recently did they begin growing grapes, bringing a bit of Tuscany to mid-coast Maine, near Camden.
  • Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery in Union is part of a larger farm selling blueberries, pork and beef, about 2 hours from Acadia.
  • Winterport Winery, a family-run winery in Winterport, is known for its Blueberry Wine about an hour from Acadia
  • Bartlett Maine Estate Winery in Gouldsboro, about 45 minute drive past Acadia is the oldest and largest in Maine.
