Things to do / Travel Guide

Dining in the Maine Coast is an important component in getting an overall feel for the region. It's pretty obvious to all that seafood is the order of the day! There is probably no better lobster available anywhere in the world, period. Boiled, baked, stuffed, thermador, lobster roll, lobster salad, lobster bisque - you name it, it's made here, and with the freshest lobster available in the world. Lobster bakes are events held almost anytime there's an opportunity.

But there are plenty of other tasty seafood offerings that are also worth the calories in these parts. Cod is a staple, as are scallops, clams, mussels, and haddock. And, of course, there's flounder. There is nothing like fresh baked and crab-stuffed flounder! There are also French gourmet restaurants around these parts, as well as many other standard ethnic bistros, but the seafood is definitely the prime dish in the region. You can find any style of seafood restaurant you desire - from fast food to haute, and everything in between. If you're on the Maine Coast, chances are you're just a stone's throw from a chowder or lobster house. Prices tend to vary according to the “haute-ness,” but there are some fantastic meals being served in the lower-priced spots.

Now, one last item, as dessert should be. There's one special treat that is a must-eat while visiting the Maine Coast - anything blueberry! Blueberry pie, cobbler, torte, tart, ice cream, smoothie, or any other manifestation of this little fruited delight is purely the best in the U.S. In closing, an honorable mention must go to the breakfast meal along the Maine Coast - simply because there are some great maple syrups produced in these parts.
Dare we suggest blueberry pancakes with fresh maple syrup? Consider it suggested, and Bon Appétit!
