Acadia Byway

Acadia Byway winds its way along 27 miles of Acadia National Park and the historic villages of Northeast Harbor and Bar Harbor on Mt. Desert Island. Visitors who travel this route will see firsthand the beautiful but rugged Maine coastline along with real old-growth forests that are still much as they were when the island was discovered by Samuel de Champlain in 1604. There are also good lodging and dining options along the way that lend to the great experience of taking this route.

Schoodic National Scenic Byway

Schoodic National Scenic Byway traverses a more unspoiled area of the raw, but beautiful, Down East section of the Maine Coast. Visitors can even try their hand at lobstering along with other traditional ways of life that still take place in these quaint protected harbors and coves. This great route allows visitors to see the handiwork of local craftsmen and artisans along the coast. Dramatic granite outcroppings create a memorable drive along the coastline that is full of blueberry farms and lush, fragrant evergreen forests. Excellent lodging options abound here, as well as tasty dining opportunities. Stop in at a lobster house and enjoy! Take State Road 1 East through the town of Hancock to the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge. The Schoodic Scenic Byway begins at the west end of the bridge. Give yourself a full day to explore this gem.
