Things to do / Travel Guide
Getting into and out of the Maine Cost is pretty straightforward. There is a major airport in Portland that offers direct flights to regional hubs like Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, etc, or connecting flights to anywhere in the world.
Driving into the region by car is also a favored method, and there is no major traffic to face heading into the region. U.S. Highway 1 from New Hampshire is the main coastal road, with I-95 providing the main access inland.
The only train traversing the region is an Amtrak commuter express, with three times daily service to/from Boston. The fare is a bit expensive, starting at $58 one-way.
There is a small, but useful, ferry system along the Maine Coast. Ports of embarkation are: Portsmouth, Casco Bay, Mid Coast, Penobscot Bay, Mt. Desert, and Passamaquoddy Bay.
There are scheduled ferry trips to many islands along the coast.
