Things to do / Travel Guide
The Maine Coast is a great destination for many reasons - natural beauty, great tourist infrastructure, good shopping, and more. But one of the nicer benefits is the fact that, as compared to other venues around the U.S., the costs are pretty reasonable.
The lodging options offered in this region range from five-star hotels to quaint bed and breakfast establishments (B&Bs). True, the higher-quality options' pricing is similar to that of other markets (expensive), but the inns and B&Bs can be affordable if you book early, and are mindful of extenuating factors such as local festivals and holidays, which tend to bump the prices. A nice name-brand inn can be had starting at about $65 per night. A B&B costs slightly more, but includes breakfast, of course.
Dining is almost always focused around seafood, as this is one of the best places in the U.S. for it! Certainly, a lobster dinner can be had for under $20, but if you go fancy for the same meal, the price tag goes fancy with it.
Transportation costs are in line with those of the rest of the U.S. There is one major toll road, the Maine Turnpike.
