Cruises and Boating in Portland, Bangor, Acadia, Bar Harbor, Maine Coast

Things to do / Travel Guide

Few regions in the United States lend themselves to boating activities quite like the Maine Coast. With almost 3,500 miles of coastline full of scenic vistas, quaint harbors and islands, and hundreds of lakes, there is certainly plenty of area to cover. Whether you want to fish, dive, or just explore with a sailboat, there are many options for renting boats, with or without guides. Keep in mind that this can be a pricey activity, though well worth it. For small motor craft under 18 feet, daily rentals start at about $150. For the full bore cabin cruisers, expect to fork over an easy $1,200 for a 25-footer. Sailboats run the gamut, with a small one- or two-person craft coasting about $100 a day, and the bigger yachts going for Donald Trump-type money, at $4,000 and up for a day. The season for boating is generally May-September, weather permitting. So, batten down the hatches, cast off the line and let's get out there! Shiver me timbers!
