Enjoy a pleasant adventure through 19th century America at the Old Bethpage Village, where you can explore an assortment of recreated homes, farms, and storefronts. The whole family can enjoy an outing in the 1800s, especially if you plan your visit in September, when you can take part in the Long Island Fair, along with over ten thousand other guests, and partake in a variety of fun family activities, including an old-time baseball tournament!
On the Old Bethpage property, there are 51 historic buildings, and seven notable reconstructions, and counting! The site itself encompasses over 200 acres, and each and every building is chosen based on its architectural and historic significance. Each building is carefully reconstructed to a specific point in its history, right down to the details of the lives of their inhabitants. One of the buildings reconstructed is the Schenck House, an old Dutch farmhouse, and one of the oldest ones remaining in the United States. The house features a side gabled roof, round butt shingles, flared eaves, and a gigantic stone jambless fireplace. Inside the house, you will feel as though you are really in a Dutch farmhouse from 1765!
The Old Bethpage Village is located off of exit 48 of the Long Island Expressway.
From Old Bethpage Restoration Village - New York:
One of Old Bethpage Village Restoration's most popular attractions is our old time baseball league. The Village sponsors two vintage baseball leagues: 1864 Rules and 1887 Rules. Each features teams recreated from actual baseball clubs that played on Long Island. In all, there are ten teams in the program. The 1864 league is made up of the Knickerbocker BBC, Mineola Washingtons, Hempstead Eurekas, and Brooklyn Excelsiors. The 1887 league consists of the Glenhead Zig Zags, Hicksville Ozones, Bellmore Seminoles, and the Seacliff Idlewilds. In addition to the eight regular season teams, the league has its own traveling squad, the New York Mutuals, who represent Old Bethpage at various tournaments and whenever other traveling clubs come to town.
