One of the most challenging public courses in the country, was the site of the 2002 U.S. Open, and will host the event again in 2009. Carts are not permitted. A sign at the course entrance reads: "WARNING - The Black Course is an extremely difficult course which we recommend only for highly skilled golfers". The state park, the largest golfing facility in the world, contains four other course for those put off by that sign to choose from. They are the Yellow, the Green, the Red, and the Blue.
