Our Casino Expert Says:

A casino an hour away from Manhattan? Save the trek to Connecticut or Atlantic City and gamble away the night right here on Long Island. In the past there were several casino cruises running out of Freeport, Long Island. Right now, Opus Casino is the only casino cruise in the area and is located on Woodcleft Ave on the Woodcleft Canal. The area is the entertainment center of Freeport, with dining and party boats and is known as the Nautical Mile and worth a few hours on a pleasant summer evening or afternoon, on the way back from Jones Beach or points east.

Now to the casino at hand. Opus Casino sails mainly on weekends (Thursday through Sunday) with two cruises daily. The morning cruise returns in the early evening and the evening cruise returns after midnight. Expect to spend five to six hours on board. That should be enough time to enjoy the table games, the slots with some time left for fine dining. The owners of Opus Casino Lines don't want you to waste valuable international water – time eating, so you will be well-fed at the buffet even before the ships leaves port. On the return, once the boat returns to New York waters and the gambling stops, the entertainment picks up with the DJ getting everyone on their feet.

For New Yorkers without a car or just seeking refuge from the summer traffic, Opus Casino Cruise is accessible by public transportation. The Long island Railroad's Babylon line (on the South Shore) stops at Freeport. From there it is 1.5 miles to your Freeport casino cruise. Under an hour from Penn Station and you are at the casino.
