Our Botanical Gardens Expert Says:

"Treat the land as a painter would a canvas," is the governing horticultural philosophy at Madoo Conservancy. Encompassing two acres in Sagaponack, Madoo Conservancy is a unique artist garden featuring eclectic and varicolored outdoor furnishings and archways, careful pruning techniques, and purposeful placement of colorful flowering plants. Much like the sculptor who understands that the raw materials themselves steer the artist's creation, since the 1960s artist Robert Dash has allowed the landscape and topography of Madoo Conservancy to organically guide his artistic botanical work-in-progress.

From Madoo Conservancy - Sagaponack, New York:

Madoo is an artist's garden. Situated on two acres on the south shore of eastern long Island, it was opened to the public on July 10, 1993. Through the years, the garden has emerged, creeping bit by bit towards the property lines, always in transition, its vital signs regularly enhanced by subtle maneuvers. A few constants are evident, such as an unusual and somewhat radical pruning technique, a goodly amount of whimsy, and a bold use of color on the outdoor furnishings, which are sometimes repainted to complement nearby blooms and foliage.
