The Bayard Cutting Arboretum, located along the Connetquot River in Great River, NY, includes more than 690 acres of meadows, centennial oaks, and brightly colored nature walks amidst rhododendron and swamp cypress. Don't miss the arboretum's pinetum - it has one of Long Island's largest collections of fir, spruce, pine, and hemlock. The Bayard Cutting Arboretum is home to many bird species, as well.
"Cutting" is not a reference to a gardening activity, rather the name of the family that donated the house and gardens. Tours of the Cutting family Manor House are available and should be reserved in advance.
