With 3 miles of beautiful beach on the Long Island Sound, plus 6 miles of hiking trails through the woods, Sunken Meadow State Park Beach has got something for everyone to enjoy. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the diverse topography here, which ranges from beach and glacier-formed bluffs to tidal flats and rolling woodlands. You can take the kids swimming in the Sound or plan a picnic by the water.

If it's a more adventurous time, spent in the water, that you seek, try kayaking, canoeing or windsurfing for some unforgettable fun. Outdoor sports like fishing, horseback riding, and hiking, as well as biking in the woods, are ample here, as is the nature viewing. Hikers will love the 32-mile Long Island Greenbelt Trail which passes through the park, and the 5-kilometer running course featuring "Cardiac Hill," widely regarded as one of the most difficult cross-country courses in the country. Sunken Meadow State Park also offers amenities such as showers, and features a boardwalk that's 3/4 mile long.

Sunken Meadow State Park, located on Long Island Sound, has a wide range of topography that sustains a variety of flora and fauna. The three miles of beach meets tall, glacier-formed bluffs at the west end of the shoreline. A man-made dam separates the park's brackish creek and marshes from the tidal flats. South of the flats are acres of undeveloped and heavily-wooded rolling hills. Activities include swimming in Long Island Sound; hiking six miles of trails, including the northern starting point of the Suffolk County Greenbelt Trail; biking, horseback riding, picnicking, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, fishing, a ¾ mile boardwalk and cross-country skiing. In addition, the park has 27 holes of golf, a driving range and putting green.
