Open as a public beach and park since 1893, Robert Moses State Park Beach is an 875-acre beachfront park located on the westernmost tip of Fire Island, and is one of the best places for surfing and surf fishing in the area. In fact, this is one of the few places on Fire Island where four-wheel drive vehicles are allowed on the beach, albeit with a permit necessary.
Visitors to the Beach can enjoy a diversity of wildlife and plant life on the nature trail here, and go hiking through woods and wetlands when not enjoying the sand and sun. There's a campground and cabins in the park for overnight stays, and a boat launch and marina as well, which can hold up to 40 boats and promises some of the best fishing opportunities in the Northeast. Of course, you can also enjoy more traditional beach activities here, from picnics to swimming, and lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day until Labor Day, so you can feel that much safer. Amenities here include beach shops, pitch-and-putt golf, and a playground for the little ones. There's are also food concession stands available for beach-time snacks.
