Our Beach Bum Says:

The beaches of Long Island's North Fork are not just for those people who made a wrong turn when they got to Riverhead. Greenport, New York beaches are very different than their South Shore cousins. One of the more popular destinations, Norman Klipp Marine Park Beach, located on New York's Greenport Harbor, is perfect for a relaxing day of swimming, fishing, kayaking or just enjoying the waterfront grill and picnic areas. Kids will find the water calm and on land, will enjoy the playground area. Fishing is allowed off the jetty and the beach has a boat ramp, as well. As far as services and facilities, non-residents pay a hefty daily fee, but receive, in return a well-maintained beach with lifeguards on duty from sunrise till after dark as well as showers and restrooms. Handicap access is available at Norman Klipp Park Beach. Residents pay really high taxes and get a beautiful beach with views of Shelter Island, in return.

Norman Klipp Park Beach is located at the end of Manhasset Avenue in Greenport, NY off Route 25. Remember, if you are headed out on the LIE, veer left when you reach the fork and if you get to Orient Point, you went to far. If you hit Montauk, long Island you took the wrong fork. And for trivia lovers, Norman Klipp was elected Supervisor of the Town of Southold in 1947. We suspect that there are still some people around who voted for his opponent, since many locals refer to the beach as Gull Pond Beach.
