Things to do / Travel Guide
Address:Southampton, New York
Welcome to the main beach in Southampton Village, Coopers Beach! Here you'll find 500 feet of beautiful Atlantic shoreline on which visitors can play, rest, and soak up some sun (while using sunscreen, of course!). Coopers Beach is a popular beach so can get a little crowded, but that's not to say that you can't have any fun – it's popular for a reason, right?
Families will love Coopers Beach – in fact, in 2007, Coopers Beach was rated #3 in the Best Beaches for Families! History buffs will also love the beach in the historic town of Southampton which was founded in 1649 as the first settlement in New York! Historic sites as well as modern day mansions dot the area and make for some beautiful scenery during walks along the beach and around town.
Need a break from the sun? Go shopping along Main Street or Jobs Lane and then pop into Buckley's Irish Pub or the Southampton Publick House for a bite to eat. To join up with the after-hours scene, check out Cabana/Pink Elephant or Stereo-By-The-Shore!
The downside of being popular? Parking is a fortune (between $30-$40) and public transportation (LIRR or Jitney to Southampton) will only take you just far enough that you'll still need to take a cab to the beach. Also, the parking lot is small and the beach is crowded, so get there early for a spot. The beach is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day from sunrise to sunset with lifeguards on duty from 10am to 5pm.
