The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society teaches visitors all about the fascinating cast of Native Americans, pioneers and rebels who played a part in Nevada's past. The museum has audio/visual and interactive displays and original artifacts, spanning the age of the dinosaurs through early Native American settlements, the silver boom of the 1800s and the 20th century, when atomic testing at the Nevada Test Site made a critical contribution to America's victory in World War II. Visitors can see a 190 million-year-old ichthyosaur fossil, as well as a large exhibit which examines the people who have lived in the desert, including the Paiute Indians, the pioneers and modern day locals. History buffs can visit the Cahlan Library which features books, maps and newspapers for research and reading about Nevada.

After a tour of the Nevada State Museum & Historical Society, visitors can enjoy the rose garden, located in the park near the entrance to the museum, the kids' playground, or a picnic by the lake. The museum is located at 700 Twin Lakes Drive in Las Vegas.
