Tourist Information for Las Vegas, Lake Mead and the Nevada desert

Things to do / Travel Guide

Known as “the city that never sleeps,” Las Vegas features an ever-changing landscape of glitz, glimmer, fun, and fantasy. Las Vegas has gone through almost impossible expansion since it first arose from the desert over 100 years ago. The infamous gangster Benjamin “Bugsy” Segal was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the formerly sleepy little desert town to transform into one of the true “must see” destinations anywhere in the world.

Some 37 million visitors a year enjoy the uniqueness of Las Vegas, and the number is constantly rising. They stay in some of the most glamorous themed hotels on the planet. They dine at five-star restaurants and buffets that aim to please any palate. They gamble in enormous casinos, swim in spectacular pools, relax in world-class health spas, and play on PGA-caliber golf courses.

The area around Las Vegas also has lots to offer in terms of outdoor activities. With Lake Mead and Lake Mojave nearby, there's plenty of fishing, pleasure boating, and water sports for the whole family to enjoy. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is also located a short drive away from Las Vegas and offers great biking opportunities and amazing desert scenery. With lions, dolphins, and big top performers at the Strip hotels, there's plenty for families with kids to see and enjoy in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is also well known for the world-famous entertainers that grace its stages. From the “Rat Pack” days of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin to more recent offerings like Celine Dion concerts and three different versions of Cirque du Soleil's shows, Las Vegas has a long and storied history of showcasing the best of the best in entertainment.

Las Vegas is also the wedding capital of the world.
If you want to get married or renew your vows, everything from the most elegant and lavish affair to an Elvis-themed wedding can be arranged, often on almost immediate notice!

Let yourself be dazzled by Las Vegas, even if the sheer number of options may at first seem a bit overwhelming. With some advance planning, your trip to Las Vegas will most certainly be unforgettable!
