Things to do / Travel Guide
As there are perceived risks associated with gambling on professional sports, Las Vegas has yet to be the home of a major sports franchise. That being said, there are, however, minor league sports being played in the Las Vegas region, as well as individual sports, like tennis, boxing, and auto racing, which sports fans are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The Thomas and Mack Center plays host to UNLV's Runnin' Rebels (college basketball) as well as a host of sports events throughout the calendar year, including rodeo, professional wrestling, and arena football. The Thomas and Mack Center has, in the past, also played host to a few Utah Jazz NBA games. Notably, in 1985, Kareem Abdul Jabbar broke the league's career scoring record in the building. In 2007, this Las Vegas arena will host the NBA's All-Star Game.
Las Vegas has been a boxing mecca for years, staging everything from Light Flyweight to Heavyweight pugilistic battles between the world's best fighters. Featured boxing venues in the region include the Thomas and Mack Center, Caesars Palace, the MGM Grand, and Mandalay Bay.
