Las Vegas is situated in the Mojave Desert region in Clark County, Nevada, measuring roughly 600 square miles. The city itself encompasses an area of 113 square miles, and sits at an elevation of 2,180 feet above sea level. It is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the Spring Mountains. The majestic peaks surrounding Las Vegas reach elevations of over 10,000 feet, and act as barriers to the strong flow of moisture from the surrounding area.
