Things to do / Travel Guide
The Hawaiian Island of Kauai is a small but varied place to visit. The primary geographic features are its beautiful beaches, tropical jungles, and lush flora. Visitors will find many things to see and do here, so enjoy!
North Shore
Lush and exotic, the north shore of Kauai is arguably the most beautiful place in all of the Hawaiian Islands. While this end of the island tends to have more rain, it offers visitors outstanding sightseeing opportunities. The north shore is also home to Princeville, Kauai's largest developed area.
East Shore
The east shore of Kauai is called the “Coconut Coast.” Just north of Lihue, this area is home to coconut plantations and is known for its many beautiful beaches and condos. The east shore is also where you will find Kauai's larger shopping areas.
South Shore
The south shore is where visitors will find some of the nicest weather on the island, along with some excellent beaches to visit. Lihue Airport (LIH) and Nawiliwili Harbor are found here, and the island's largest variety of lodging options is found in this area.
West Shore
Located in the rain shadow of Mt. Waialeale, the west shore is known both for having the driest weather on Kauai, and for its lack of development. The west shore's famous 17-mile stretch of breathtaking beach begins at Waimea and runs to Polihale. Visitors will particularly enjoy the scenic Waimea Canyon inland and the breathtaking 22 miles of cliffs and beaches along the Napali Coast.
