Most Kauai hotel and condo accommodations are located in Poipu, Princeville, or the area stretching between Lihue and Kapaa. Hotels that are located on the beach or immediately adjacent to the beach generally run high in terms of price. Renting out a large condo may be more cost-effective if you're traveling together with a large group. There are also a couple of other more budget friendly alternatives to staying in a Kauai hotel.
Bed and Breakfast (B&B) - Kauai Hotel Alternatives
Alternatively, some of Kauai's best lodging deals can be found at bed and breakfast establishments (B&B). B&Bs are literally scattered across the island, and many have sprung up in the centrally-located Wailua area. While the B&Bs sometimes have prices as low as $50 a night, Kauai's hostels, many of which are located in Kapaa, sometimes offer the bargain basement prices of $20 per person per night.
Camping - Kauai Hotel Alternatives
Trading a Kauai hotel room for camping in a state park is your cheapest option. For $5-$10 a night, visitors can pitch up a tent in any state park upon receipt of a permit from the Division of State Parks, located at 3060 Eiwa Street, room 306, in Lihue. To get the permit, you must show some form of identification, such as a driver's license or passport.
