Things to do / Travel Guide
Kauai is part of the Hawaiian Island chain in the Pacific Ocean, about 2,600 miles from mainland United States. Of the main Hawaiian islands, Kauai is the oldest and farthest west.
Kauai, known as the “Garden Island,” is a circular island, featuring the 5,243-foot Kawaikini Peak in its center. Kauai comprises an area of about 552 square miles.
Kauai is an extremely lush island, partially due to the fact that it is one of the world's wettest locations, with a tremendous amount of annual rainfall. The wettest point on earth, Mt. Waialeale, is located on Kauai, and receives an astounding 460 inches of rainfall each year. This allows pineapple and sugarcane to grow particularly well on Kauai. Because of the tropical nature of the island, it is particularly desirable for tourism, with its outstanding beaches and natural beauty.
