Our Nature Nut Says:

Locally known as the "Great Egg," Great Egg Harbor River is famous for its tea-colored "cedar water" (don't be fooled - it's extremely clean) and is the largest canoeing river in the Pinelands. The river is a great place to play - whether you're boating, fishing, kayaking, or keeping your eyes open for the several species of waterfowl who call the river their home.

From Great Egg Harbor River - New Jersey:

Starting as a trickle near Berlin, NJ, the Great Egg Harbor National Scenic and Recreational River gradually widens as it picks up the waters of 17 tributaries on its way to Great Egg Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean. Established by Congress in 1992, nearly all of this 129-mile river system rests within the Pinelands National Reserve. This National Park Service unit is unusual in that local jurisdictions continue to administer the lands. The National Park Service manages the designated river in partnership with the State of New Jersey, four counties, and twelve municipalities to protect the corridor's valuable natural and cultural values for present and future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
