Snorkeling off the New Jersey Shore
Snorkeling is not a very popular activity off the New Jersey Shore beaches, given that much of the exciting artificial reefs, shipwrecks and other underwater destinations are best suited for scuba divers. Many of the best attractions are several miles off the coast.
That said, the popular beach areas of the Jersey shore might be a great place to try out that snorkel gear. Choose a spot with good visibility, low commercial traffic and know the tides, before you go.
Towards the end of the summer, grab a snorkel and look for tropical fish. Yes, juvenile tropical fish. The eggs are laid near Florida and beyond and the Gulf stream brings them to the Northeast.
