Scenery - Scenic Views in Atlantic City, Wildwood, Cape May, New Jersey Shore

Things to do / Travel Guide

To gain a loftier outlook on life, scope out one of the Jersey Shore's scenic overlooks.

Northern Jersey Shore Overlooks

The 266-foot Mt. Mitchell Scenic Overlook in Atlantic Highlands sits at the highest point on the Atlantic Ocean Seaboard. Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook, and New York City's Manhattan skyline are all visible from Mt. Mitchell's pretty panoramas and sweeping view. The Bayshore Trail in Keansburg follows the sand dunes and is another great place to look out onto Raritan Bay and New York City. Further inland, the trails of Huber Woods Park in Middleton provide breathtaking vistas of the Navesink River.

Lighthouse Lookouts along the Jersey Shore

Perched 200-feet above sea level on a rocky promontory overlooking the Shrewsbury River, Twin Lights Lighthouse of Navesink in Highlands will give you a great wide-angle glimpse of lower New York and Sandy Hook. If you don't mind a little huffing-and-puffing up 217 stairs, climb on up to the top of the Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island. At 165-feet above sea level “Old Barney” boasts 360-degree views of the bay and a privileged peep down the wispy 18-miles of Long Beach Island. For another lighthouse lookout, try New Jersey's tallest lighthouse, Absecon Lighthouse near Atlantic City's boardwalk. Climb nearly 230 stairs for beautiful views of up and down the Jersey shoreline. Not to be outdone, the Watch Room Gallery of the Cape May Lighthouse offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay.

Wetlands Institute's Observation Tower

For another lookout workout, climb the spiral steps of the Wetlands Institute's Observation Tower, which offers a 40-foot scenic overlook; a bird's eye view of Stone Harbor's surrounding wetlands. On a clear day, you'll be able to look up and down Jersey Shore's coast from Sea Isle City to Wildwood.
