Things to do / Travel Guide
Looking for a great place to “park” your kids? Jersey Shore parks are fun, safe, and, best of all, many are right on the beach. For many years Atlantic City has boasted the promising slogan “America's Favorite Playground,” and your children can put the motto to the test.
You can sit back and relax while your kids play safely in a gated park right next to the Bradley Beach Park boardwalk and miniature golf center. Another nice verdant area is the beach park just two blocks from the Avon Pavilion food stands in Avon-By-The-Sea. You can have a nice cheesecake and wine (or Cheetos and punch) picnic with your kids at Cheesequake State Park off the Garden State Parkway. The park offers hiking trails, a baseball field, picnic facilities, and a small six-acre life-guarded lake for swimming. Allaire State Park is also worth checking out, as over 3,000 acres of grassy lawns, hiking trails, picnic areas, and a playground can provide your family with hours of leisurely outdoor enjoyment. Sitting right on the beach of the Shark River Inlet, Shark River Park combines sweaty, sticky playground fun with safe, refreshing beach swimming. The park's almost-1,000 acres also include picnic areas and seven miles of walking trails. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp near Atlantic City has plenty of room for running and playing, as well as more structured fun like miniature golf and amusement rides that kids young and old are sure to enjoy.
Reputed to be one of the best-shaded parks in the Jersey Shore, the playground near Third Avenue in Spring Lake offers three different play areas, a lake, as well as a nature trail. On Manasquan's Main Street you'll find a great park that offers three pleasantly-shaded, age-appropriate play areas. Older children and adolescents will probably opt for the ramp skimming in Manasquan's new (and free) Skateplex skate park on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. For running, tumbling, and even skating around, and for playgrounds that combine beach, sun, and sand, Jersey Shore parks are guaranteed to amuse.
