Adventure Travel in Atlantic City, Wildwood, Cape May, New Jersey Shore

Things to do / Travel Guide

You don't have to win at the Atlantic City slot machines to feel on top of the world while in the Jersey Shore - skydiving, parasailing, and helicopter and open-cockpit biplane flights will also make your spirits soar.

Skydiving over the Jersey Shore

All of you winged-wannabes can plummet toward the planet on a skydiving adventure over the Jersey Shore. You're bound to feel less gravity-bound - at least for a minute. Skydiving companies in Wildwood and Farmingdale will happily set you up and you can land right on the soft sands of Jersey Shore beaches.

Helicopter Flights over the Jersey Shore

Hum, buzz, and hover your way around Atlantic City's boardwalk and casinos, Pineland National Preserve, and Jersey Shore's waterways in a helicopter. Various companies throughout the Jersey Shore offer one-hour helicopter tours. For a unique, gentle ride that is worth bragging about, you can schedule a tour in the actual helicopter used in the “M.A.S.H.” television series in Farmingdale, where from the aircraft's bubble windows you'll peer down at the Jersey Shore in style.

Biplane Flights over the Jersey Shore

If you were ever tempted to walk in the shoes of the Wright Brothers, now is the time. Del Rosso's Blue Baron Biplanes offers open cockpit rides along the Jersey Shore coastline in an antique, World War II (yellow-winged) Stearman biplane. During warm-weather months pilot Dominic Del Rosso flies his brightly colored biplanes to Keyport Bay. A 15-minute ride costs $75 and a 75-minute ride over the region's coasts will set you back about $400.

Parasailing over the Jersey Shore

Float 500 feet over the Atlantic Ocean beneath a colorful parasailing canopy. Generally available in the warmer weather season, from May-September, parasailing companies in Sandy Hook, Sea Isle City, Wildwood Crest, Ocean City, and Atlantic City offer this sensational soaring-while-sailing adventure.
Like a butterfly (and with butterflies in your belly) you'll hover high above the Ocean, gazing down at Jersey Shore's white sand beaches and tiny boats plying the white-capped waves. You'll see harbors and coves, islets and inlets, and when the ride is over, you can ask for a “cool dip” water landing in the Atlantic Ocean. Best of all, no experience is necessary!

Shark Hunting along the Jersey Shore

You want to get up close with Jaws? The film “Jaws” was actually inspired by Jersey Shore shark attacks in 1916, and, nowadays, adventurous visitors to the Jersey Shore hunt these teeth-gnashing beasts with a vengeance. Shark hunting is not just an activity for those on the fishing fringe - it is one of the most popular game fishing activities on Jersey Shore. Brown, blue, and dusky sharks are the most common trophies, and hammerheads and threshers are less commonly caught, but a real notch in the shark-hunter's belt is the fierce, fighting mako shark. Shark hunting expeditions generally leave from Brielle and Point Pleasant Beach in June and July.
