Things to do / Travel Guide
Address:Hilo, Hawaii
Downtown Hilo located on Hawaii's Big Island, is a classic town of the tropics filled with old buildings. The Hilo Arboretum contains broad lawns filled with a wide variety of non-native trees that were once evaluated for their usefulness to Big Island. Visitors can enjoy the wide variety of tress and exotic flowers and if you're interested in identifying them, stop at the office to pick up the tree listing and test your knowledge. The Hilo Arboretum is open from 7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday, and admission is free. Though the arboretum is a good spot for the solo visitor or a very small group, larger groups should probably break into two to be sure there's space for all to enjoy. Anything you purchase here can be shipped home for you, so you'll have a tree to remember from your trip to Hilo.
