Things to do / Travel Guide
Visit the only tropical botanical garden in the U.S. on an ocean. Home to over 2000 species, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden has been acclaimed as one of the most beautiful areas in all of Hawaii.
A spectacular garden in a valley on the ocean, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is located on the Big Island of Hawaii and boasts incredible nature trails in a true tropical rainforest, with bubbling streams, beautiful waterfalls and ocean vistas along the rugged Pacific coast.
Visitors to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden can take in the beauty of a variety of heliconias, gingers, bromeliads and hundreds of other rare and exotic plants from all parts of the tropical world, as well as walk the 500 foot long elevated boardwalk that winds down the narrow ravine of Kahalii Stream (which now runs dry due to a landslide which diverted all its water into Onomea Stream). The giant bamboo, orchids and ferns are spectacular and the garden is home to an impressive collection of almost 200 species of palms, including fan, fishtail, sago, date and betel nut palms. The Palm Vista Trail has more than 50 species of plants and trees, including the giant and colorful jackfruit tree. Best of all, the gate keepers at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden answer all of your questions and provide free umbrellas in the event of rain!
