Our Beach Bum Says:

Escape to a tropical beach with a flavor of paradise! Filled with lush green vegetation, shady trees, bright white sand, and Hawaiian lava rocks, this beach promises a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere you simply won't want to leave. Shaped like a ½ mile sandy crescent guarded by rocky points at the ends, Hapuna Beach State Park boasts white sands which have earned it a reputation as one of Hawaii's finest beaches. The beach offers consistently good conditions for sunbathing, swimming, body-boarding, strolling and snorkeling and the waves here are the perfect size for beginner body and boogie boarders. Note that lifeguards are not always on duty, so ask for their schedule in advance to stay safe. Those who like to hike should check out the walking trail that runs along the cliff line for some nice views. Visitors and locals alike love Hapuna's shaded grass and picnic tables, and there is ample parking, plus restrooms and showers for quick clean up. Near the parking lot there is a small snack bar and rental shack, which serves smoothies, shaved ice, food and cold drinks and rents boards, chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear. The beach itself provides plenty of space, even on weekends, for families to set up camp for the day. If you do choose to spend the day, remember that the Hawaiian sun is hot and there is very minimal shade on the sand so look for small pockets of shade off the beach and near the beach perimeter where the sand meets the trees and rocks.
