Things to do / Travel Guide
It's always a pleasure to experience Hawaii's warm weather, especially if you're visiting from a cold climate. Sunny and pleasant throughout the year, tropical showers can also be expected often, but not for long periods of time, especially on the windward coast. On the leeward coast, however, the weather is incredibly temperate, with infrequent rain. Aside from the tropical showers, the days are basically clear, warm, and beautiful, with the mercury rising slightly during the summers. Gentle northeast trade winds blow across the island daily and have a cooling effect that keeps the humidity level down as well.
The island's only city, Hilo, on the windward side, is also the wettest city in the United States, with an average of over 180 inches of rain a year. Indeed, it does snow in the winter, but only near the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, the island's highest peaks, so no need to bundle up.
