Things to do / Travel Guide
Some of the world's best big game and deep sea fishing trips can be made off of the Kona Coast. Among the fish you can try to catch are blue marlin (which can weigh in excess of 1,000 pounds), tuna, swordfish, sailfish, spearfish, mahi-mahi, and others. Though you may do the catching, the charter's captain usually gets to keep the fish.
Many of the fishing charters are docked at the Honokohau harbor in the Kailua-Kona area. For those of you who are somewhat wary of sailing out to fish for yourselves, you can observe the daily catch being weighed at the harbor starting at 11 a.m. The peak weighing time is from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
