Our Ski Specialist Says:

Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee's petite neighbor Snow King has nothing little about it. Although it may seem small in comparison to its larger neighbors, it makes up for its relatively smaller size with plenty of soul. Nestled in the foothills of the Gros Ventre Mountains, Snow King has entire town of Jackson as its very own ski-in ski-out, as the Snow King Ski Area is located only six blocks from the town center.

Snow King has 16 trails serviced by 3 lifts, including one triple and two double chairlifts as well as a surface tow. The skiing at Snow King is considered to be one of the region's best kept secrets. Despite the relatively small vertical drop, the slopes of Snow King's 400 skiable acres are often extremely steep, and most are considered to be expert runs.

Snow King's near perfect fall line makes it a favorite of racers, professional and amateurs alike. It is one of the few hills in the region with night skiing with two of its lifts servicing the 110 acres of lit slopes. Snowboarders are welcome on the mountain's slopes, all of which provide a variety of challenging "au-naturale" terrains, however there are no man made features designed for snowboarders. Weather permitting, the winter season begins on Thanksgiving Day and continues on until late March. Snow King's ski hours are from 10:00am to 8:00pm from Tuesday through Saturday, and from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sundays and Mondays.

There are plenty of fun and exciting activities in and around the ski area such as Snowmobiling and Elk Refuge Sleigh Rides. Snow King is also very close to Yellowstone's other Ski Areas, Jackson Hole, and Grand Targhee, so if you're interested in trying out a different mountain, free transportation is available to both of them. Also available are snowshoeing in Grand Teton National Park and tubing adventures for the entire family. Numerous other adventures await you just around the corner. You can find the home of the Jackson Hole Moose Hockey Club at the local indoor ice skating rink. For those who enjoy watching extreme sports, make sure to check Snow King's calendar for such exciting events as the Jackson Hole Town Downhill, and the Snowhill Climb where snowmobile riders race up the 1,500 vertical feet of the Snow King Mountain's steepest slope.

The Mountain has a base lodge with a cafeteria located adjacent to the skating rink. The majority of the mountain's services can be found here. If you're looking for a bite to eat, the resort offers several restaurants which serve up three meals a day to hungry customers. Just a few steps from Snow King Mountain in Jackson, with its historic boardwalks and famous Town Square, is the town's main dining center. There is a wide range of dining options available including Chuckwagons (a form of mobile kitchen), Coffee Houses, and restaurants, ranging in selection from bistros and steakhouses to pizza places. Jackson's nightlife is lively with bars, lounges, and brewpubs, as well as a variety of cultural activities that include comedy clubs and theaters. For more selection, or a more après-ski feel, hitch a ride to Jackson Hole or Grand Targhee to party it up with the other snow-bunnies.

In addition to the resort at the foot of Snow King Mountain itself, there are plenty of lodging opportunities available just a short walk from the mountain, with a selection of B&Bs, inns, and hotel chains to fit any budget. Just north of Jackson are Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone Park, both of which have lodging opportunities within and without them.
