Moonlight Basin is located in Big Sky, Montana and shares both a border and joint ticket option with Big Sky Mountain. Located in a beautiful section of the Rocky Mountains, Moonlights Basin's elevation enables the 400 feet of snow that lands on it in any given year, to keep on giving just a little bit longer. The mountain's terrain is varied and offers suitable terrain for skiers of all levels. The availability of ski-in ski-out lodgings on the mountain ensure a family-friendly environment.
This side of the mountain has 76 slopes serviced by 6 lifts including Montana's only high-speed, six-passenger chairlift. Moolight Basin's almost 2,000 skiable acres of terrain include a variety of slopes, from mild trails to hair-raising chutes. It also boasts a lift-serviced vertical drop of 2,720 feet and an actual vertical drop of 4,150 feet. The mountain's longest run is the Horseshoe at 2.8 miles. Moonlight Basin's remote location keeps the slopes uncrowded, and the lines short, enabling you to comfortably ride the entire mountain all day long. Snowboarders are free to roam on all the mountains trails, as well as having full access to the mountain's terrain park.
With the Lone Peak Pass interconnect lift ticket, which combines the terrain of Moonlight Basin with that of Big Sky Resort, skiers and riders have access to 5,512 acres, the biggest skiing acreage available for skiing in the US on just one ticket. The Mountain offers a variety of distinctive ski-and-stay packages for both its on-slope and off-slope lodgings. Numerous discounts are also available for Moonlight Basin's day passes. Make sure to ask about their College Day Pass, Kids Day Pass, Military Discounts, and Senior Discounts. If you're coming with a group, make sure to check out their group rate diccounts.
For first time visitors wanting to get to know the mountain's nooks and crannies, the Moonlight Mountain Guides offer a free "getting to know the mountain" tour. For a high-speed thrill check out the NASTAR racing which takes place on the mountain every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as on holidays. A variety of other activities are available in the area as well. If you're looking for some interesting, non-downhill activities to get your adrenaline flowing, try cross country skiing at Lone Mountain Ranch, with its 75 kilometers of breathtaking view accessible to skiers of all levels. Dogsled adventures are offered for a partly relaxing, partly exhilarating experience. In the winter, Moonlight Lodge's natural pond becomes an ice-skating haven. Open until 9:00pm skating on the pond is an attractive night time activity.
