Our Ski Specialist Says:

Grand Targhee Ski Resort is the kind of place where everything is just a stone's throw away from your doorstep; and everything means everything. Whether it's dining, shopping, relaxing in the spa or the heated outdoor pool, enjoying Targhee's winter activities, or simply hitting the slopes, you're never far from your next destination.

Grand Targhee is located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in Western Wyoming. Its base is in the beautiful Teton Mountain Range, and it is famous for its snow conditions, with over 500 inches annually. Despite getting twice as much snow as their neighbor Jackson Hole, Targhee remains relatively undiscovered which means fewer lines and fewer people to ride the powder with.

Grand Targhee's 72 trails are divided, albeit unevenly, amongst two mountains: Fred's Mountain with 63 trails, 1,500 skiable acres, and a 2,000 foot vertical drop, and Peaked Mountain with 9 trails, 1,500 skiable acres, and a 2,419 foot vertical drop. Fred's Mountain has its own beginner's area, with the rest of the trails spread across the two mountains. Peaked Mountain is almost completely composed of advanced level ski slopes. Make sure to hit up the various powder and glades areas to really get the adrenaline flowing. Both mountains open daily at 9:00am with lifts closing at 4:00pm. The Sacajawea lift leading up to Peaked Mountain closes at 3:30pm.

Targhee is not only a skier's paradise, boarders love it as well. If you're not a powder fan, carvers will love shredding the corduroy grooming on the slopes as all slopes are open for boarders. Grand Targhee has two terrain parks as well as natural freestyle terrain ready to be cut up. If you're just starting in the snowboarding world, then the North Pole is for you, while more experienced freestylers will enjoy Trick Town's action packed terrain with its table top, rainbow, flat down rails, and more. The freestyle area, appropriately dubbed Center Earth, is based on natural features and is expertly groomed to ensure enjoyment.

Targhee is definitely not the kind of place where one gets bored. Whether you're looking for on the hill or off the hill activities, Targhee offers a wide range of activities for all ages and interests.

On the hill activities include access to 15 km of groomed Nordic Ski Trails surrounded by mountains and wildlife and filled with beautiful trails and terrain. The resort also hosts the annual Telemark Festival, Snowshoe & Dog Sled tours, SnowCat Adventures, where 12 adventurers take off into the mountain's huge powder reserve, and a Tubing Park. Guests can also join the resort's Ski Patrol to experience how their canine companions can assist them during avalanches.

For those looking for a different kind of adrenaline rush, or just some time off their feet, Targhee provides numerous off the hill extra-curricular activities as well. Aerial tours, Tandem Paragliding, Snowmobile Tours to Yellowstone National Park or to other regional attractions, a full service spa & fitness center, an outdoor heated pool, two hot tubs, and a variety of shopping opportunities are right at your doorstep.

Targhee's resort shop offers special and unique services. These include the opportunity to not only rent out K2 Skis and Dynastar skis, but a Demo program that allows you to try out as many models as you like for the same day-long price. The shop also offers a wide range of powder and carving skis made exclusively for women.

If you're looking for an unusual dining experience then Grand Targhee resort has just the right thing for you. Take a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh to the high altitude yurt where you will be served a western style dinner complete with scones and honey butter. The local restaurants serve up a wide variety of food at sensible prices. The resort's Trap Bar & Grille is a great place for an après-ski beverage or two, with bands from around the world strumming their guitars for the guest's listening pleasure. The resort also offers up a range of evening activities including a wine and cheese reception, casino & bingo nights, and guest speaker nights.

All lodging at Grand Targhee Resort is ski-in/ski-out. There is an off-site vacation rental available about 10 miles from the resort. For those interested in staying off-site, there are an assortment of lodging options in nearby Teton Village and Jackson.

The Targhee Express provides daily round-trip transportation from Jackson and Teton Village for your convenience. Service is available from December through March. Grand Targhee is only an hour's drive from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, an hour and a half from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and 5 hours drive from Salt Lake City, Utah.
