Explore a 1.8-million-acre forest that's home to Bighorn sheep, elk and grizzlies. With its high mountain lakes, rugged peaks of volcanic rock and groomed ski trails,, Gallatin National Forest is a haven of natural beauty.

A playground for outdoor lovers, Gallatin National Forest contains 2,200 miles of trails, 1,740 miles of streams and rivers, and 700 high-mountain lakes and reservoirs for visitors to enjoy. Visitors can go cross country skiing, fishing, hiking, and rafting or enjoy a walk through a petrified forest. Gallatin National Forest campgrounds are within 35 miles of Yellowstone National Park and offer great camping in rustic settings that includes 24 log cabins. The Gallatin National Forest also boasts more than 135 miles of professionally groomed snowmobile trails with high elevation that allows for plenty of snowfall, and the trails offer a beautiful setting for cross country skiing.

The Gallatin National Forest is located around the city of Bozeman and adjacent to the northern and western boundaries of Yellowstone National Park. Interstate 90 runs across the north end of the forest. U.S. Highways 89 and 191 provide access to much of the forest as well as Yellowstone National Park.
