Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is the largest national forest in Montana and its breathtaking scenery makes for a wide variety of recreational pursuits. Visitors can enjoy a trek in the Anaconda-Pintler or Lee Metcalf Wildernesses, a drive along Gravelly Range Road or Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway, or camp in one of the 50 campgrounds in the forest. The Pintlers exhibit classic Montana snow-capped peaks and Georgetown Lake offers good fishing, year round. Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is home to over 180 species of animals, including moose, mountain goats, and black bears and winter sports enthusiasts will find top-notch snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing trails, as well as downhill skiing. And everyone will get a kick out of the ghost towns of Elkhorn and Coolidge, where you can relive Montana's past.
The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is located in southwest Montana. Only five paved routes cross this large Forest: Interstates 15 and 90, State Highways 43 and 278, and the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway.
