Our Museum Expert Says:

The Museum of the Rockies is an awesome place. As you walk through the museum, situated at Montana State University, you will travel through more than four billion years in time and you will experience the Northern Rocky Mountain region and the life that emerged from it from the beginning of time to the present.

The Museum of the Rockies houses the world's largest collection of dinosaurs, including the largest T-rex skull in the world and some of the rarest dinosaurs. You'll learn about new discoveries in dinosaur research and experience pioneering life on a living history farm.

In the Hall of Giants you'll find Giant Jurassic sauropods, early Cretaceous bird-like predators and reptilian sea monsters from the mid-Cretaceous period. This hall includes many species of dinosaurs that can only be seen at the Museum of the Rockies. The Hallway of Growth and Behavior showcases some of the only dinosaur embryos and nests in existence, including a well-documented Maiasaura growth series and other specimens from the Late Cretaceous. The Hall of Horns and Teeth has dinosaur sculptures, sound effects, hundreds of fossils, and the most complete Triceratops growth series, including a massive Edmontosaurus (a large, plant-eating, duck-billed dinosaur from the late Cretaceous period). In this hall, you'll see the last great age of non-avian dinosaurs.

A permanent exhibition of Montana's American Indian Cultures examines the life of American Indians living on the Northern Plains and near the Rocky Mountains, and illustrates how they have retained their cultural identity in spite of the challenges.

The Taylor Planetarium, a 104-seat domed theater, provides a unique, educational and entertaining experience that inspires visitors to explore science and the world around us. Throughout the year educational shows about astronomy and other topics are presented, as well as periodic entertainment-based laser shows.

The Museum of the Rockies features temporary exhibits that change a few times a year, an example of which is "Masters of the Night: The True Story of Bats", where visitors can crawl through a cave and hang out like a bat, experiencing life as a bat.

Be sure to check out the museum's gift shop which offers many dinosaur items, DVDs, and other unique gift items.

To get to the Museum of the Rockies, exit I-90 at N 7th St. and head south to Main St. where you'll make a left to head east. Make a quick right onto Wilson Ave which becomes West Kagy Boulevard.

The miracle of dinosaurs will always impress. Come on in and check out this most impressive display.
