Originally built in 1904 to house the guests of Buffalo Bill and others on their way to visiting Yellowstone National Park, the Pahaska Tepee does not reflect the image of the traditional Native American tent the name conjures. The original "tepee," located three miles from Yellowstone's east entrance and 48 miles west of Cody, is a two story log building that has some of Buffalo Bill's original items, such as a buffalo skull over the fire place. It was named after Buffalo Bill himself - Pahaska is a Crow Indian nickname he had, meaning "long hair." The lodge is open for tours on weekdays during the summer. The bar inside features a 1938 chandelier said to be worth $2 million, stained glass windows, and other notable furnishings.
