Our History Buff Says:

Several historic structures built during the army's tenure at Fort Yellowstone are available for viewing in the Mammoth region of Yellowstone Park. Six buildings, standing all in a row, were constructed between 1891 and 1909 as living quarters for officers and captains at Fort Yellowstone. Another stone building used to house the U.S. Engineers Department is located across from the visitors' center, where you can find out more information about the Fort Yellowstone Historic District. Visitors can also check out the one surviving wing of the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, built in 1911, where a large map of the United States is constructed out of 15 different types of wood.
