Wyoming and Montana Getaways
The Wyoming Quiz: a) What portion of the world's geysers are here? (Half), b) What word best describes the Teton Range - craggy, sharp, or jagged? (All). The region is quite empty, yet millions of tourists and thousands of bison, bears, and elk frequent the area. Very few places offer better views, varied wildlife, and outdoor activities.
Bozeman (not Bozman) Tourist Attractions
Bozeman and the rest of south-central Montana is the most heavily traveled area in the state, and when you see the number of outdoor recreational activities, you'll see why. Some of the biggest draws to the area include world-class fly fishing, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and any other sport that takes advantage of the four major rivers that flow through the region's valleys.
Bozeman is the hub for visiting the area and provides guests with a rather trendy university town, filled with good bookstores, restaurants, parks, and of course some good Wild West saloons. And the fact that Bozeman is just about 100 miles from Yellowstone only helps draw visitors eager to explore this adventurous region.
Another popular Montana city worth your attention is Butte. In the late 1800s there was a copper boom in the area that brought wealth and riches to the area. Butte for a short while was known as "The Richest Hill on Earth." You can still see the effects of the event by checking out some of the large historic homes and mansions.
Yellowstone Vacation Spots
Most tourists who make their way out to Wyoming and Montana do so for one reason and one reason alone: to vacation at Yellowstone National Park. Few other parks in the world can boast the magnificence of Yellowstone. With its thermal geysers, abundant wildlife, and immensely deep canyons, this park truly is an adventurer's wonderland. And did you know that Yellowstone showcases a waterfall that's double the height of Niagara Falls? Not too shabby!
Spots you won't want to miss at Yellowstone include Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower-Roosevelt, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Yellowstone Lake, Noris Geyser Basin, and Old Faithful. Yellowstone is famous for its geysers and hot springs so make sure you don't miss out on these amazing natural phenomena.
Make sure you spend at least a day in Lake Village, located on Yellowstone Lake. This area hosts much of the parks water activities in addition to hotels and restaurants. Bridge Bay Marina, located just south of Lake Village, is another great hub for guided fishing trips, boat rentals, and more.
Wyoming & Montana Tourist Attractions
There are three main draws to Wyoming. Yellowstone National Park is one. Grand Teton National Park is the second. And Jackson Hole is the third.
Few know the meaning of "Grand Teton." The national park was dubbed as such when French trappers decided to name the area after the tall, breast-like spires. ("Teton" means "breast.") "The Grand," as the park is called by locals, like its nearby Yellowstone, is a hiker's dream come true. Animal life is rich, trees are tall and majestic, and the mountain air is clean and fresh. Stop by the Colter Bay Visitor Center for a lively break and by Jenny Lake for some beautiful views.
The third attraction is Jackson Hole. Here is a city that combines a jet-setting vacation spot for the rich and famous with its nearby, laid-back dude ranches. The mix becomes increasingly interesting when you throw in some old-time cowboys, skiing enthusiasts, a families on vacation. To accommodate such an eclectic crowd, Jackson Hole presents visitors from all walks of life with activities and attractions to suit each person's needs. There are great bars and restaurants, ski slopes, family-friendly activities, and more. The area is upscale and trendy, and lots of fun!
Wyoming and Montana Road Trip Getaway Planner
Yellowstone is huge and requires at least three unrushed days, preferably more. Add a few days based out of an upscale resort in Jackson Hole, and for hiking in Grand Teton. You'll need longer if you want to pack in fishing and rafting. Grab a good map of Idaho and Montana and start your Yellowstone roadtrip.
