The quiet solitude and the clean, shimmering waters of the Chattahoochee River are what drive people to visit Georgia's Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Some come to hike the river's trails or observe animal life and beautiful wildflowers, while others are more interested in peacefully floating down the water on a raft or in a canoe. There's no camping in the park, but trout fishing is popular as is horseback riding along the trails of the Forsyth County section of Bowman's Island. Swimming is king at Charlie's Island in the East Palisades, but keep in mind that the waters stay very cold year-round.

Sometimes the river is clear, cold, and slow-moving, while at other times it is a muddy torrent, plunging through rocky shoals.
