Our Museum Expert Says:

Admire a collection filled with more than 11,000 works of art! With genres that range from American and European to African and African American, visitors of all kinds to the High Museum are sure to find a personal treasure trove of art and culture.

The High Museum of Art was founded in 1905 as the Atlanta Art Association, and by 1926 the High family donated their family home on Peachtree Street to house the collection. Today, the museum is a work of art in itself with its porcelain tiling, bright white interior, four floors of galleries and four-story atrium. The permanent collection here includes 19th and 20th century art form the United States, European art, decorative art, African American art, modern and contemporary art, photography and African art. Popular works by Monet, Heade, Lange and Close are also on exhibit.

The Virginia Carroll Crawford Collection of American Decorative Arts shows trends in decorative arts, while the Kress Foundation collection includes Italian paintings and sculpture. Aside from admiring artwork, visitors to the High can also enjoy diverse cinema, such as silent films and movies linked in theme to current exhibitions, or Friday Jazz on the 3rd Friday of every month.

When you're ready for a snack break, check out the café for sandwiches, soups, pastries and desserts, plus fresh juices, teas and specialty coffees - or perhaps Table 1280 Restaurant and Tapas Lounge is more your style, where you can enjoy views of the main piazza over lunch.

The Museum and the Woodruff Arts Center are located at MARTA rail station N5: Arts Center Station, on the north/south line, so clear your afternoon and get ready for some High art and culture.
