It was Kermit the frog himself who in 1978 cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the Center for Puppetry Arts. Since then, the collection has grown to contain thousands of puppets and has been educating and entertaining the young and the old through the magic of puppetry.
Puppetry at the Center for Puppetry Arts is seen as an art form used for teaching, healing and communication. Virtually every culture has used puppets in their history and the Center displays them all.
The hands-on section of the Center for Puppetry Arts displays over 350 puppets from various time periods and countries from around the world. Puppetry from ancient cultures and far off places are side by side those you remember best, and the humanitarian unifying quality represented by puppets really comes across.
Special exhibits at the Center are constantly on display. Sabrina the Teenage Witch's talking cat Salem has a special display dedicated to him, as well as Jim Henson and that loveable frog, as well as other exhibits dedicated to Henson's legacy.
The Center's store features DVDs of Center performances, puppets for kids, puppets for adults and resources for educators, allowing you to take a little magic home with you.
The Center for Puppetry Arts is conveniently located in Midtown at the corner 18th Street. From the I75/I85 take exit #250 and cross 10th street heading right onto 14th. A left onto W. Peachtree St. followed by another left onto 18th will bring you across Spring St. and into the main parking lot. The entrance to the Center is at the rear of the building.
A puppet wonderland is waiting for you, so come in and be entertained, educated, and who knows, you might find yourself doing a bit of puppetry yourself!
